Obwohl es sich hier nicht um ein Werk der Programmmusik handelt, rührt die emotionale Basis des Werkes von einer mythologischen Bestie her, welche als Chupacabra bekannt ist und das Blut von Ziegen und anderer Farmtiere aussaugt. Diese Kreatur lebt in den Wäldern von Puerto Rico und nährt sich vom Viehbestand der örtlichen Farmer. Das musikalische Material geht auf diese koboldeske kleine Wesen und die Laute eines Frosches zurück, der coqui genannt wird und zu den einheimischen Lebewesen Puerto Ricos gehört. Although this is not a piece of program music, the emotional basis for the piece comes from a mythological beast known as the Chupacabra, a fierce creature known for sucking the blood of goats and other farm animals. This creature lives in the forests of Puerto Rico, feeding upon the livestock of local farmers. The themes and pitch material of this piece comes from accounts of this impish little creature and the sound of a frog called a coqui that is indigenous to Puerto Rico.
